AMMAN — The door is still open for the establishment of new political parties even after the deadline set by the Political Parties Law, said Chairman of the board of commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Musa Maaytah on Tuesday.
Maaytah said that parties that apply for establishment will fall under the category of “under establishment".
Speaking during a panel session organised by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Maaytah noted that the end of the deadline for political parties to rectify their legal status does not indicate that the path is closed for other political parties at this juncture, as 26 parties managed to rectify their status.
In the upcoming elections for the Lower House, 41 seats will be allocated to parties, which will increase to 65 per cent of the 22nd Lower House.
With regard to the 2022 Election Law, Maaytah said that the law increased the number of seats allocated to women under the quota to 18 seats at the local constituency level.
