Awqaf minister, Malaysian ambassador talk cooperation

AMMAN — Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Al Khalaileh on Monday met Malaysia’s Ambassador to Jordan Mohammad Nasri bin Abdul Rahman.

Khalaileh highlighted the significant role of the ministry in the care and supervision of approximately 7,000 mosques across the Kingdom, as well as its efforts in preaching and guidance and the role of female preachers who have become an integral part of the religious and social fabric, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Touching upon the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department, Khalaileh emphasised that the department receives a budget allocation of approximately JD15 million from the ministry.  Khalaileh shed light on the challenges and obstacles imposed by the occupation, which have impeded certain reconstruction initiatives.

He also highlighted the continuous efforts to counter incursions by extremists and Israeli officials, under the protection of occupation forces. The envoy commended the ministry and its affiliated institutions’ role. He also praised the historical ties between Jordan and Malaysia, noting that numerous Malaysian students who pursued degrees in Sharia (Islamic law) from Jordanian universities have returned to their homeland, with some assuming prominent leadership positions. Currently, there are approximately 1,500 Malaysian students enrolled in various Jordanian universities, he noted.
