EMRC president highlights quarterly achievements

AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) achieved an 11 per cent increase in the number of licences and permits issued across regulated sectors during the first quarter of this year, according to EMRC President Ziad Saaideh.

Speaking to EMRC staff on Tuesday, Saaideh highlighted the commission's achievements during the first quarter of 2023 compared with the same period last year, according to an EMRC statement.

The number of licence and permit applications submitted to the commission rose by 17 per cent, according to Saaideh. Likewise, the commission carried out 56 per cent more inspections, and the number of inspections increased by 12 per cent, he said.

 The commission carried out 44,914 programmed and periodic inspections during the first quarter of this year compared with 40,103 in the same period last year. The increase resulted in the detection of 5,980 cases of unauthorised electricity consumption, up 26 per cent from the same period last year, Saaideh said.

The total number of complaints received decreased from 4,916 to 3,186, and the number of power outages decreased from 4,768 to 2,919. Revenue generated from all sectors increased from around JD1.5 million to JD4 million.
