AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma on Wednesday attended a Ramadan iftar banquet organised by Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) in partnership with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the Nuzha Development Centre in Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Beneficiary families of various nationalities, including refugees and local communities, participated in the iftar (the fast-breaking meal at sunset).

The princess, along with the UNHCR Deputy Country Representative, and a number of UNHCR officials attended the sports and culture activities which were held on the sidelines of the banquet.

The princess stressed that the centre provides a space for meeting between refugees of different nationalities and the local community.

Her Royal Highness, with the participation of volunteers, delivered parcels to beneficiaries including refugee families and members of the local community, as well as gifts and clothes for children.

In cooperation with UNHCR, the centre facilitates refugees’ access to services provided by the UN agency, including legal assistance, social protection, education, training and awareness programmes which target various groups, especially women, children, persons with disabilities and the elderly.

The centre also works, through voluntary youth and women's committees, to implement a number of initiatives.

Supported by UNHCR, a number of 20 community support committees were established across the Kingdom.
