AMMAN — Romania considers Jordan to be “a factor of balance and justice in a complex region”, holding great appreciation for the Jordanian leadership’s efforts to promote regional stability and peace, Romania’s Ambassador to Jordan George Cristian Maior said on Sunday.

In press remarks on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Romania, Maior said: "We praise and support the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah and his firm determination to implement reforms and develop the Kingdom in political, economic and administrative sectors, which are essential for achieving long-term stability and sustainable growth."

Stressing that both countries are on the same page when facing global and regional challenges, Maior said that Romania and Jordan have the same commitments to stability, prosperity and providing good opportunities for their people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The last 58 years have contributed to building a strong partnership between the two countries in political, trade, economic, educational, cultural, food security, civil protection, healthcare, military and electronic security fields, the ambassador said, highlighting that continuous diplomatic dialogue and intense efforts from both sides have led to permanent improvements in these sectors.

Sunday also marked the 19th anniversary of Romania's full membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the strongest political-military alliance in the world, Maior said.

"As the NATO contact embassy in Amman for the next two years [2023-2024], the Romanian embassy will help NATO and Jordan work closely together and enhance their strategic relationship, and will continue to support Jordan's efforts to strengthen its relationship and cooperation with the European Union and NATO,” Maior added.

Diplomatic relations between Romania and Jordan were established on April 2, 1965, and diplomatic missions have been operating at the embassy level in Bucharest and Amman since 1974.
