AMMAN — Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya on Saturday visited a number of facilities in Aqaba, including the Control and Coordination Centre in the Southern Industrial Zone in the headquarters of the Aqaba Governorate.
The centre was established in 2022 to monitor public safety in the industrial zone factories, the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management and Aqaba Governorate’s headquarters. During his tour, which came on the sidelines of the prime minister's visit to the port city, Faraya was briefed on the centre's tasks and duties related to the public safety of industrial facilities, where he emphasised the importance of maintaining coordination between the centre, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), the Aqaba Governorate and the industrial facilities, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The minister also checked on the Aqaba Ports Operation and Management Company, where he was acquainted with the company's public safety-related operations and the latest measures to avoid previous problems, most notably the toxic chlorine gas leak incident from 2022. During his visit to the Aqaba Governorate headquarters, Faraya met with the governor of Aqaba.
