Cabinet approves amendments to Civil Proceedings Code

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday approved the validating reasons for a draft law amending the Civil Proceedings Code for 2023.
The draft law aims to reduce the overcrowding in courts, save time and effort, facilitate court proceedings and shorten the litigation period.

The Cabinet also approved recommendations of the settlement and conciliation committee, related to settling pending cases between 872 companies and taxpayers and the Income and Sales Tax Department.


The Council of Ministers also approved the committee’s recommendations to reconsider pending cases between taxpayers and/or violators and the Jordan Customs Department and settle 15 cases, provided they pay all the remaining dues or fees and taxes or costs within two months from the issuance of this decision.


The Cabinet decided to form the Investment Council, in accordance with the provisions of Article 8 of the Investment Environment Law No. 21 of 2022.


The council will be chaired by the prime minister and include as members the following officials: Minister of Investment as deputy chairman, minister of Planning and International Cooperation, minister of Finance, minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, governor of the Central Bank, chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, and four private sector representatives: Basem Al Salem, Majd Shweikeh, Ahmed Abu Ghazaleh and Issam Fakhreddin.
