AMMAN — The National Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Centre (NEIDC) on Monday participated in specialised technical meetings with a delegation from the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The US delegates arrived in the Kingdom on Sunday for a several-day visit, headed by CDC Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Heather Burke, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

NEIDC President Raeda Qutob met with the delegates and discussed means to enhance cooperation in the field of disease control and prevention.

The meeting also went over means to enhance public health practices in preventing epidemics and slowing the spread of communicable diseases. The meeting also discussed local and international preparation methods, as well as biological terrorist threats, boosting proper health and environment behaviours, and enhancing the Kingdom's potential in health monitoring.

Qutob said that the NEIDC was established following Royal directives after the COVID-19 pandemic hit Jordan and the entire world. The centre has a special bylaw that aims to improve national efforts in limiting the spread of diseases and epidemics in coordination with regional and international partners, said Qutob.

She noted that cooperation with peer centres not only helps combat health threats, but also allows the centre to benefit from international expertise and support through partnerships as well as signing memos and agreements.

The NEIDC president added that the centre also coordinates local response efforts to limit the impact of epidemics, pandemics and other health threats, in addition to following up on the implementation of health emergency plans and monitoring health and environmental threats.
