AMMAN — Lawmakers on Thursday continued deliberations over the 2022 draft state budget law and draft budgets of independent public institutions.
Lower House Speaker Abdulkarim Dughmi, during the session, said that the deputies will vote on the two draft laws on Sunday after listening to the government response, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
MPs’ remarks focused on the “alarming” unemployment and poverty rates, the fall in the value of the dinar, uncertainty about the pandemic’s impacts, in addition to the growing budget deficit and public debt, among other issues.
The lawmakers also called to abandon the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) “prescriptions that brought poverty, hindered development efforts and plunged the country into debt”.
They also expressed support for the armed forces’ anti-terrorism efforts, calling for combating corruption and adopting five- and 10-year plans.
