AMMAN — The Senate on Wednesday began deliberations over the constitutional amendments.
After approving 21 out of the 30 articles referred from the Lower House, the Upper House will continue deliberations on Thursday morning.
In their remarks, the senators said that adding “Jordanian women” to the title of the Second Chapter of the Constitution is “merely a moral tribute for women” and has nothing to do with changing “Islamic personal status jurisprudential rules”.
The Senate also passed the Lower House decision to approve the amended bill of the Audit Bureau 2020, as amended by the Upper Chamber, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Speaking during the session, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Khasawneh stressed that adding the “Jordanian women” phrase is a “worthy honour” to Jordanian women in a way that does not change provisions, highlighting that the Kingdom is a pioneer in empowering women and their role in society.
