AMMAN — The Jordan Breast Cancer Programme (JBCP) recently concluded a three-day advocacy training in the Balqa Governorate.
The training was part of the programme’s “blended learning and behaviour change for local development” project, according to a statement from the organisers.
The training was given to a group of community activists and media advocates with support from the European Union support project for civil society organisations.
JBCP is a national programme led and supported by the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC). It was established as a national programme that orchestrates breast cancer early detection efforts across Jordan, providing screening services to Jordanian women and raising public awareness about breast cancer.
The purpose of the course, which was conducted in several other governorates in the last three years, is to create a platform for partnerships within the local community, and ensure civil society actions align with the national development plans that feed into the overall objective of the EU support project, read the statement.
The EU’s programme aims to enhance the role of civil society in local development, while supporting women’s participation in development processes.
This pool of trainees will use the advocacy skills they acquired to change social behaviours towards several topics like supporting the implementation of the smoke-free law in public; working to provide a supportive environment to help the community follow healthy lifestyles; and ensuring the right of women to access high quality early cancer detection examinations across Jordan, the statement said.
