23 COVID deaths, 2,452 virus cases recorded Sunday

AMMAN — Twenty-three COVID-19 deaths and 2,452 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 892,120, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 11,238, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 6.86 per cent.

A total of 35,769 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 11,467,991, according to the statement.

The statement added that 2,120 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 851,303.

The statement added that there are currently 29,582 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 115 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 714, the statement said, adding that 83 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 21 per cent, ICU beds reached 45 per cent, while the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 21 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 17 per cent, 35 per cent for ICUs and 13 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 12 per cent,16 per cent for ICUs and 14 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 808 infections in Amman, 506 in Irbid, 239 in Zarqa, 202 in Balqa, 129 in Jerash, 128 in Ajloun, 105 in Karak, 104 in Madaba, 84 in Mafraq, 78 in Aqaba, 30 in Maan, 19 in Ramtha District, 18 in Tafileh, and two cases in Petra District.

The statement also added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,045,428 while 3,616,943 have received their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,411,550.
