Jordan’s mining sector shares to increase 11 per cent by 2025 — EMRC

AMMAN — Jordan’s mining sector contributed to almost 7.7 per cent of the Kingdom’s GDP in 2019 and accounted for 19 per cent of Jordan’s total exports. The 2015-2025 Mineral Resources Strategy envisions the sector’s shares to increase 11 per cent by 2025, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
A paper released by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) indicated that Jordan is the world’s seventh largest producer of potash (potassium chloride). The paper was presented by EMRC Commissioner Wafa Al Bakhit during the fourth edition of the Arab Mining and Minerals Conference, which was launched in Amman on Tuesday.
The Arab Potash Company was Jordan’s leading exporter in 2019, with a 1.6 per cent contribution to the GDP, the paper stated.
The paper said that Jordan's phosphate production contributed 1 per cent to the Kingdom’s GDP in 2019.
The Jordan Bromine Company’s revenues added a 0.9 percent value to Jordan’s GDP, the paper also said.
The natural raw materials for manufacturing fertiliser and acid have encouraged the operation of 85 fertiliser factories in the Kingdom, whose products are exported to several countries, including Japan.
Jordan is home to five cement factories, which equated to JD 260-million in total revenues in 2019.
