Planning minister acquaints donors, UN agencies with gov’t Economic Priorities Programme

AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh shared the government’s Economic Priorities Programme 2021-2024 with a number of ambassadors of donor countries and UN organisations. 

The programme was designed to help place the economy on a trajectory for growth and recovery, according to a Planning Ministry statement.

The minister indicated that the programme consists of 53 priorities across three main pillars that include improving the business and investment environment, enhancing competition and increasing employment, and supporting a number of priority sectors. 

He also described the implementation mechanism for priorities, private sector consultation methodology and delivery model, the statement said.  

Shraideh highlighted that the programme is comprised of a number of policies, reforms, and projects that will help stimulate the economy and enable the private sector to create jobs. 

He underscored the significance of the public-private partnership investment projects that will be vital in achieving the objectives of the programme and will be tendered over the next 24 months.

The programme will be “a living document” that will be reviewed every six to nine months. Every priority within the programme has its own delivery target, as well as an implementation timeline and allocated funds for implementation, read the statement. 

The minister expressed the government’s appreciation for the continued support for the Kingdom to help support the ongoing development and reform efforts, mitigate the impact of the pandemic and help Jordan continue to host Syrian refugees. 

Several participants expressed their support to the government’s efforts and highlighted the important role the programme has in transforming some of the challenges into opportunities, according to the statement.
