AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Tuesday said that a ministerial committee to develop and improve the public sector's performance was formed.

The committee, which is headed by the premier, is tasked with drawing up policies, programmes and projects for the development of the public sector, studying relevant legislation, and approving the outputs of the Higher Committee for the Restructuring of the Governmental Apparatus, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In response to Senator Haifa Al Najjar's query, Khasawneh stated that the establishment of the Institutional Performance Development Department, after abolishing the Ministry of Public Sector Development, came to develop the performance of the government institutions, evaluate and develop government services, and enhance the role of institutional development units in government departments.

The prime minister pointed to the public sector development and government services component part of the 2021-2024 government Executive Indicative Programme, which is implemented according to a specific timeframe and clear measurement indicators that the government adheres to.

Khasawneh pointed out that comprehensive planning for government services includes setting priorities, developing a national registry for services, establishing comprehensive centres for government services, in addition to automating services and assessing their implementation on the ground through the Bekhedmetkom platform and paying unannounced visits to service delivery centres to check on their performance.
