King returns to Jordan after US visit

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah returned to Jordan on Saturday after an official visit to Washington, DC, where he was accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Rania and HRH Crown Prince Hussein, according to a Royal Court statement.

During the visit, King Abdullah met with US President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and key US administration members, as well as Congress leadership and committees.

On Friday, His Majesty met in Washington, DC, with World Bank Group President David Malpass, and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, in separate meetings, attended by Crown Prince Hussein.

The two meetings covered Jordan’s efforts in implementing economic and development plans seeking to provide job opportunities, enhancing investments and improving the business environment and basic services, with the goal of achieving growth and providing jobs, while maintaining economic stability and supporting those most impacted by COVID-19 implications.

The meetings also addressed ways for international agencies to support the recovery of the Jordanian economy from the recent crisis.

Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington, DC, Dina Kawar attended the meetings.

Also on Friday, the King in Washington, DC, met with a number of influential think tank representatives in the United States.

The meeting, attended by Queen Rania and Crown Prince Hussein, covered regional developments and Jordan’s position on various issues and regional crises, in addition to the partnership between Jordan and the United States.

His Majesty also met with US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley in Washington, DC, on Friday.

The meeting, attended by Crown Prince Hussein, covered means to bolster the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, especially in military and security fields, in addition to international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.
