AMMAN - His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday stressed that political, economic, and administrative reform is not about slogans, but careful consideration and a clear distribution of roles to see tangible results, noting that overcoming COVID-19 through vaccination and the gradual reopening of sectors in the upcoming period will enable Jordan to move forward in this regard.
During a meeting with political figures at Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah stressed the importance of moving seriously and transparently with the reform process, within clear, time-bound programmes and objectives that produce tangible outcomes for Jordanians, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty noted the need to reach out to the public and capture their feedback and comments on reform.
The King urged directing efforts to counter the challenges of poverty and unemployment, which have increased substantially due to the pandemic, noting the need to implement the e-government programme and facilitate investment procedures, said the statement.
His Majesty also noted the efforts directed at the gradual reopening of sectors, adding that the imminent arrival of additional vaccines would facilitate the process.
Commenting on regional developments, the King reaffirmed Jordan’s support for the Palestinian people in fulfilling their just and legitimate rights, stressing ongoing coordination with Arab and foreign countries to push for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, which can only be resolved on the basis of the two-state solution.
The meeting also addressed Jordan's regional ties, and its efforts in bolstering security and stability in the region, in addition to finding political solutions to its crises.
His Majesty highlighted the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq, and ways of enhancing it to serve all interests and bolster joint Arab action.
For their part, attendees noted the importance of gradual political, economic, and administrative reform in order to achieve the desired outcomes, calling for enhancing public trust in state institutions.
They also commended Jordan's stance towards the Palestinian cause, noting the Kingdom’s regional and international efforts to support the Palestinians.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting, concluded the statement.
