88 COVID deaths, 8,789 virus cases recorded Sunday

AMMAN — Eighty-eight COVID-19 deaths and 8, 789 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 535,455, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 5,876 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 18.89 per cent, compared with 18.8 per cent reported on Saturday.

A total of 46,517 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,477,803, according to the statement.

The statement added that 7,413 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 434,167.

The statement added that there are currently 95,412 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 482 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 3,307, the statement said, adding that 370 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 50 per cent, ICU beds reached 73 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 40 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 71 per cent, 79 per cent ICUs and 53 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 24 per cent, 39 per cent for ICUs and 21 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 3,813 infections in Amman, 1,243 in Irbid, including 53 in Ramtha District, 674 in Balqa, 589 in Zarqa, 465 in Madaba, 385 in Aqaba, 370 in Mafraq, 352 in Jerash, 351 in Ajloun, 349 in Karak, 111 in Tafileh and 87 in Maan, including 23 cases in Petra District.
