65 COVID deaths, 3,340 infections recorded Sunday

AMMAN — Sixty-five COVID-19 deaths and 3,340 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 665,735, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 7,773, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 12.54 per cent, compared with 12.65 per cent reported on Saturday.

A total of 26,644 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,320,767, according to the statement.

The statement added that 7,940 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 596,293.

The statement added that there are currently 61,669 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 363 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 2,789, the statement said, adding that 338 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 41 per cent, ICU beds reached 78 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 46 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 55 per cent, 69 per cent for ICUs and 37 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 29 per cent, 44 per cent for ICUs and 30 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 1,033 infections in Amman, 500 in Irbid, including one case in Ramtha District, 412 in Zarqa, 287 in Balqa, 204 in Mafraq, 168 in Madaba, 164 in Tafileh, 162 in Ajloun, 141 in Jerash, 125 in Aqaba, 116 in Karak and 28 in Maan, including eight cases in Petra District.
