AMMAN — Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Mousa Maaytah on Saturday met with the members of the Coalition of Nationalist and Leftist Parties within the framework of dialogues to develop political life in the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Maaytah said that the dialogues that the ministry engages in with various parties and national actors come in light of Royal directives which urge reevaluating legislation regulating political life especially pertaining to the parties and elections laws.
Pointing to the Lower House’s essential role in these dialogues, he noted that the government is intending to refer the local administration law to Parliament next month in preparation for conducting municipal and governorate council elections next fall.
Nonetheless, Maaytah denied the existence of a current governmental project pertaining to amending parties and elections laws.
He highlighted the necessity to enhance civic culture and the role of parties as a means that represents people and expresses the interests of different groups of society.
The coalition’s spokesperson Abla Abu Elbeh called on the government to create an environment that paves way for political reform.
