AMMAN — The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) and the Aqaba Juhod Al Ayadi Exhibition on Monday signed an agreement to receive funding within the framework of the EU-sponsored “Cultural Routes for Sustainable Social and Economic Development in Mediterranean” project, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

JREDS Aqaba branch manager Mohammad Al Tawaha said that the exhibition aims at empowering women by providing an opportunity to boost their income through displaying and selling traditional food and hand-made crafts, Petra reported.

The tourism exhibition also obtained a secondary funding amounting to JD11,445 to train 25 women and help young craftspeople create Aqaba-themed products representing the history and culture of the city, Tawaha noted.

He added that the EU-funded project promotes sustainable tourism, supports local communities and highlights the importance of heritage and identity.
