18 COVID deaths on Tuesday take Kingdom’s virus death toll to 225

AMMAN — Eighteen COVID-19 deaths and 2,054 coronavirus cases, including 2,047 local infections, were recorded in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload to 28,127, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s death toll to 225.

The local cases comprised 1,357 infections in Amman, 210 in Zarqa, 90 in Ajloun, 122 in Irbid, including 17 in Ramtha district. 

Among the local cases were also 67 infections in Karak, 59 in Balqa, 28 in Jerash, 40 in Madaba, 30 in Mafraq, 11 in Tafileh, eight in Aqaba and 25 in Maan, including five cases in Petra district.

Cases from abroad included five individuals who returned to the Kingdom, as well as two truck drivers who tested positive at the Omari and Jaber border crossings, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, 52 recoveries were registered on Monday, including 13 from Prince Hamzah Hospital, 35 from the Dead Sea isolation sites and four from accredited private hospitals.

A total of 25,736 virus tests were also conducted on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered to 1,464,941.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
