Ukraine embassy in Amman marks independence day

AMMAN — Over 28 years of bilateral cooperation has brought Ukraine and Jordan closer, the Ukrainian embassy in Amman said on the occasion of occasion of the East European nation’s independence day.

On August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 29th anniversary of its independence declared in 1991, according to an embassy statement. 

In less than one year after the declaration of independence, in April 1992, Ukraine established diplomatic relations with Jordan that has been gradually developing during these years. 

Both nations have been regularly exchanging official and working visits on different levels, signing bilateral agreements in the spheres of economy, education, culture, maritime transport, finance, arranging cultural events aiming to enhance the cooperation between the friendly nations, the statement said.

Jordan and Ukraine traditionally share similar standpoints on topical international issues such as global security, countering terrorism, protection of international law and peace, read the statement.

“It has become crucial now when the whole world faces the common enemy, COVID-19, and the reuniting of our efforts became a cornerstone of overcoming the challenge all over the globe,” the embassy said.

Ukraine is among the countries that are ready to work together with its partners and friends for the common good, the statement said

Ukraine is willing to strengthen its cooperation with the Kingdom, the embassy said.

Just few days ago, the newly arrived Ambassador of Ukraine to Jordan Myrolava Shcherbatiuk presented copies of her credentials to Saja Al Majali, secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan. 

“The ambassador has brought clear directives from President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and is looking forward to formulating a comprehensive vision regarding the development of partnership with Jordan when an audience with His Majesty King Abdullah is granted and common goals are set up,” the embassy statement said.

Ukraine produces high-tech products and remains a “strong” agricultural supplier.

These days when food security is at the top of many nations’ agenda, “Ukraine is ready to provide its best products and services to Jordan”, read the statement.

Thirty-three per cent of the world’s black-earth soil, favourable climate and geographical location make Ukraine one of the leaders in the world in agri-export market, according to the statement.

Ukraine and Jordan have very deep roots for people’s diplomacy. Today, about 5,000 Ukrainians live in Jordan and almost the same number of Jordanians reside in Ukraine. About half of them are Jordanian students who have chosen affordable and competitive higher education in Ukraine. Another half of Jordanians in Ukraine are businesspersons who benefit from its favourable business environment, according to the statement.
