14-year-old boy allegedly stabs mother to death

AMMAN — The juvenile prosecutor is currently questioning a 14-year-old minor who allegedly stabbed and killed his mother with a kitchen knife earlier in the day, official sources said.

The 55-year-old victim received multiple stab wounds to her body allegedly by her son while at their home at dawn on Monday, official sources said.

“The suspect was immediately apprehended by police officers and confessed to stabbing his mother to death,” a senior judicial source said.

The source told The Jordan Times that initial questioning of the suspect indicated that the “incident was related to a domestic dispute”.

“Based on the minor’s preliminary words to investigators, he claimed that he had engaged in a heated argument with his mother because he returned home late,” the senior judicial source said on condition of anonymity.

The suspect told investigators that he “grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his mother repeatedly,” the judicial source said.

A post-mortem conducted by a team of forensic experts indicated that the victim “received around 30 stab wounds to her body with the majority of stabs detected on her neck”, said Director of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine (NIFM) Adnan Abbas.

“We also detected some defence wounds on the victim’s left arm,” Abbas told The Jordan Times.

Criminal Court Prosecutor Salah Taleb oversaw the autopsy at the NIFM, a second judicial source told The Jordan Times.

“Taleb referred the case to the juvenile prosecutor because the case does not fall within his jurisdiction,” the second judicial source said.

The juvenile prosecutor is currently questioning the suspect’s family members and other relatives, according to the second judicial source.

“The juvenile prosecutor ordered the minor to be detained at a juvenile correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation in the case,” the second judicial source said.
