AMMAN — Around 20 per cent of Jordanian expatriates are expected to return to the Kingdom in light of the economic regression in the countries they work in because of the coronavirus pandemic, Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) President Nael Kabariti said in a statement issued on Sunday.
In the statement Kabariti said that there are around 500,000 Jordanian working abroad, especially in Gulf countries, noting that many have expertise and capabilities that can be utilised to serve the local economy.
Therefore, the JCC is launching this week an online platform to help returning Jordanians who are expected to return because of the coronavirus crisis, the statement said, noting that the platform will integrate their expertise in the local economy.
The platform will act as a network that connects the returning expats with Jordanian companies, institutions and facilities in the commercial, industrial and services sector to benefit from their experience.
It will also include job descriptions and required experience and skills, noting that this requires complete cooperation between the public and private sectors to overcome any challenges and “innovatively” benefit from their expertise.
Kabariti said the JCC initiated dealing with the situation and giving it attention after Gulf countries in particular imposed difficult measures to deal with the repercussions of the coronavirus on its economic sectors, such as lowering salaries and laying off employees, according to the statement.
