AMMAN — The Jordan Seismological Observatory (JSO) has denied reports that Aqaba was struck by an earthquake on Thursday.
In response to an inquiry by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, JSO Director Mahmoud Qaryouti said that the observatory did not record any earthquake in Aqaba on Thursday, and that it officially announces all seismic activities taking place in the Kingdom or in neighbouring areas.
Qaryouti added that the JSO, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, is the only entity authorised locally to announce such seismic activities.
