AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma on Sunday inaugurated the Women’s Development Forum in Jerash, which aims to contribute to the economic participation of women through providing them with a proper environment for education and acquiring vocational skills.
The forum is being organised in Jerash Governorate’s Sakeb Village by Al Ahli Holding Group/Dubai in partnership with the Rural Pioneers Association and the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The event also gives local women an opportunity to showcase their products, which include yoghurt, olive products and honey, through a permanent bazaar hosted at the association’s headquarters.
During the opening ceremony, Princess Basma highlighted the importance of such initiatives in creating positive thinking patterns among women to enhance their economic participation and stimulate them to create home-based productive projects.
She also referred to the significance of cooperation between civil society institutions and non-governmental organisations in realising national goals aimed towards boosting women’s economic participation.
The princess expressed JOHUD’s pride in contributing to the forum and its readiness to offer its expertise in the fields of development and economic and social empowerment to serve all relevant national initiatives.
Dalal Qardan, head of the association, said that the forum is a result of local women’s engagement in voluntary work as part of the women’s committees at the Princess Basma Development Centre in the governorate.
Lina Hourani, of Al Ahli Group, reviewed the group’s initiatives in Jordan and other countries, which mainly focus on women’s economic empowerment and issues related to their vocational development.
During the event, Princess Basma also attended the signing of 12 agreements between the association and voluntary institutions that will contribute to the initiative through holding free training courses for local women, Petra reported.
