New water management system ‘sector milestone’ — Abul Saud

AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abul Saud on Monday announced commencement of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to supervise and manage water resources in the Kingdom. 

The SCADA system will overlook main and sub water supply sources in all water companies and the Jordan Valley Authority through automated control systems for remote monitoring and operation, according a ministry statement. 

The minister delivered the announcement in a meeting attended by the ministry’s Secretary General Ali Subah, Jordan Valley Authority Secretary General Ali Kouz, Deputy Secretary General of the Water Authority of Jordan Feras Al Azzam, Miyahuna Executive Director Ghazi Khalil and a number of senior officials in the water sector. 

Abul Saud said the implementation of SCADA, which the ministry has been working on for the past few years, is a “milestone for the water sector”, which aims at improving the performance of operation and maintenance processes, in addition to remotely controlling all water resources.

This is part of the ministry’s efforts to ensure the sustainability of water resources using advanced technology in the sector, in addition to efforts to reduce water loss and improve response to any malfunctions to enhance services provided to citizens across the Kingdom, the minister was quoted in the statement as saying. 

He added that the new system will provide data for decision makers in governorates and supply it to the ministry, ensuring supply is based on the needs of different areas.

The minister voiced his appreciation for USAID’s support for the project, which he said will also act as an early warning system with “highly accurate technical information”, thanking all those who worked on the project. 

For his part, Director of the Technical Team for Water Management Initiative projects Saddam Khleifat said that the new programme will enable water companies and the Jordan Valley Authority to take proper decisions swiftly while ensuring the safety of the water resources.

He added that the system offers geographical information, leak detection, pressure management and network maintenance and unifies all operation and maintenance systems in the water sector.
