AMMAN — Police on Monday said they were investigating an alleged attempted murder of a man and his son in Tafileh by a man who reportedly shot and killed himself on Sunday.

The 50-year-old suspect reportedly opened fire on the two victims while they were walking on the street, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

"The suspect then shot and killed himself shortly after shooting the two men," Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The two victims were rushed to a nearby hospital and were listed in fair condition, according to the police official.

Preliminary investigations indicated that "old feuds were the reason behind the shooting incident", according to a statement by the Public Security Department (PSD).

A second official source told The Jordan Times that the suspect was a pharmacist and that "he followed the victims on foot on the street and fired several rounds hitting them in the arms and legs".

"The suspect then sat on a chair and pointed the gun to his head and fired one round," the second source told The Jordan Times.

A postmortem conducted at Tafileh National Institute of Forensic Medicine indicated that the victim died of a bullet to the head, a senior medial source said.

"The victim was shot at close range and it is classified as suicide for the time being," the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

Police said they were investigating the incident, according to the PSD statement.
