AMMAN — Authorities are questioning a man who allegedly murdered his wife during the Eid holiday in Central Badia, official sources said.

The victim was allegedly strangled by her husband while at their home on Wednesday, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

The suspect turned himself in to police claiming that he murdered his wife while at their home, according to Sartawi.

"The suspect claimed that he choked his wife to death of marital problems," Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The Criminal Court prosecution office began questioning the suspect and summoned his family members and the victim's relatives for further questioning, he added.

Also on Wednesday, the Criminal Court prosecutor charged a man with robbery and premeditated murder in connection with the stabbing death of a man in Irbid, the police official added.

"Irbid police was notified that the body of a man in his 50s was found at his home by his relatives," Sartawi said.

Forensics determined that the victim died of multiple stab wounds, he added.

"A special police team that was tasked to investigate the homicide was able to trace a man who was at the victim's house at the time of the murder," according to the police official.

Upon questioning the suspect, Sartawi maintained, "He confessed to murdering and robbing the victim," Sartawi added.

Both suspects were ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 14 days pending further investigations into both incidents, a senior judicial source told The Jordan Times
