AMMAN — The Indonesian embassy in Amman on Saturday concluded the Indo-Levant Travel Mart 2019 with the participation of travel agents from Jordan and Indonesia to explore cooperation in the field of tourism.

Several business-to-business meetings were held during the two-day event on boosting Jordanian tourism to Indonesia and the region, an embassy statement said.

The event was inaugurated by Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, who highlighted the potential of increased cooperation in the field of tourism between Indonesia and the Levant, according to the statement sent to The Jordan Times.

Yahya said that Indonesia’s 17,000 islands are home to many tourist attractions and destination.

To that effect, Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan and Palestine Andy Rachmianto said that Indonesia attracts around 20 million tourists every year, according to the statement.

The mart featured traditional performances and dances to highlight the Indonesian culture and heritage.

Rachmianto commended ties between Jordan and Indonesia, adding that the aim of the event is to encourage tourism cooperation between the two countries.

In 2018, 5,726 Jordanians travelled to Indonesia, down 9 per cent from 2017, the statement said.

Over 6,000 Jordanians visited Indonesia in 2017, the ambassador said in August last year, up 30 per cent from 2016’s 4,805 visitors.

In 2017, 50,000 Indonesians visited Jordan, according to Rachmianto.
