Depression forecast to bring cloudy, rainy conditions today

AMMAN — A new depression will begin affecting the Kingdom today, after Jordan saw its first snowfall on Sunday night, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Monday. 

The JMD said the depression brings with it rain and more cloudy conditions. Temperatures are also expected to be cold during the day with scattered showers likely at times.

According to Arabia Weather, snowfall is forecast for heights between 900 and 1,000 metres, for today and tomorrow.

Clouds will gradually begin forming, and the northern region will see rainfall, which is expected to gradually spread to the central region and some south-eastern parts of the country, the department said.

The northern region should also expect to see heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at times.

Light snow may form over mountainous areas at night, and active south-westerly winds of around 50-60kmph are expected, with occasional gusts in the Badia area.

The JMD said that a slight decrease in temperature is expected on Wednesday, with cold and partly-cloudy weather, adding that scattered showers are expected over the northern, central and eastern regions of the country. 

Wednesday night should see clouds gradually decrease and stable weather return, with a possibility of frost forming over high areas and moderate to active westerly winds, the JMD said.

According to the statement, temperatures should rise on Thursday with cold weather remaining in most regions. Moderate and partly-cloudy weather is likely in the Jordan valley and Dead Sea.

Moderate south-easterly winds are expected, along with frost over heights and parts of Badia late at night, the statement added.
