‘Hotels in Aqaba almost full during eid vacation’

AMMAN — Hotels in Aqaba reached almost full occupancy rates during the Eid Al Adha holiday, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Chief Commissioner Nasser Shraideh said on Saturday.

Hotel occupancy rates during Eid Al Adha holiday rose to 100 per cent in five-star hotels, while it reached 90 per cent in four-star hotels and lower, where tens of thousands of locals and visitors from all over the world spent the Eid holiday in Aqaba, Shraideh added.

Shraideh cited a questionnaire carried out by the ASEZA's cadres at the entrances to Aqaba saying that the average time of stay exceeded two nights, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He also added that about 11,000 visitors stayed in hotels, 22,000 in apartments and 11,000 in friends' and families' homes and 27,000 stayed in tents on the beaches, according to Petra.

He said that the health control department cadres scaled up monitoring and inspection campaigns on foodstuff, shops and restaurants to ensure the safety of food, pointing out that about 3 tonnes of foodstuffs were destroyed.
