Pedestrian bridge collapses in Amman after truck smashes into it

AMMAN — One person was injured as part of a pedestrian bridge collapsed near the Central Traffic Department (CTD) in Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
A truck smashed into the concrete pedestrian bridge on Saturday night, causing part of it to collapse onto the vehicle and two other vehicles, which blocked the road to Zarqa, according to Petra.
The media office at the Civil Defence Department (CDD) said that rescue and ambulance cadres in east Amman the CDD provided first aid to the injured and transferred him to the Prince Hamzah Hospital.
The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has removed the debris, and said that the teams of the GAM and the CTD took all measures to ensure public safety at the site.
GAM called on drivers of shipping vehicles to comply with the guiding signs on pedestrian bridges, which specify the permissible heights to pass under the bridges.
