AMMAN — The government will stand with national industries and will not allow other countries’ industries to prevail, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs Jamal Sarayreh said on Wednesday.
Opening a workshop on technical education at the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI), Sarayreh expressed the government officials’ readiness to visit factories “one by one” to solve any and all existing problems, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that the government is keen on developing national industries and remove all obstacles facing them. “Improving the industrial sector will automatically improve other sectors.”
He highlighted the need of the industrial sector, mainly ACI, to direct its attention to training centres that develop the skills of the Jordanian workforce and to attract relevant international expertise, “especially from Germany.”
ACI President Ziad Humsi called for the training of graduates to improve their skills and performance, which will consequently contribute to addressing any limitations that exist in the local labour market.
Humsi noted that the industrial sector contributes to nearly 25 per cent of the gross domestic product through 18,000 facilities that employ 240,000 workers and export goods valuing around JD4.5 billion.
