Women’s Film Week kicks off at Rainbow Theatre

AMMAN — Under the Patronage of HRH Princess Basma, a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, the 6th edition of the Women's Film Week was launched on Thursday to celebrate International Women's Day, marked annually on March 8, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The event, organised by UN Women in cooperation with the Royal Film Commission (RFC) and Metropolis Women Network, will feature a number of films highlighting the obstacles and aspirations of women in different parts of the world.
The films — free of charge — will be screened at the Rainbow Theatre in Jabal Amman from Thursday evening until Sunday, with two shows daily at 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
During the launching ceremony, UN Women Representative to Jordan Ziad Sheikh said that the cinema speaks a "universal language" through presenting inspirational stories about women and men that are understood by everyone.
RFC Communication and Culture Manager Nada Doumani pointed to the increase in the percentage of Arab female filmmakers compared to Western countries, in addition to female directors, producers, actresses, camera women and designers.
For her part, Women's Film Week Artistic Director Ghada Saba highlighted distinctive women's models globally which will be presented during the film week, stressing that last year witnessed a global movement towards achieving equality and stopping violence and sexual harassment against women, especially at the workplace.
