Jordanian Bread 4 Education project receives regional award

AMMAN — The founder of the “Bread 4 Education” initiative Abdul Rahman Zghoul has received the Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Young Business Leaders in the community entrepreneurship initiative category, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday.

The initiative, which was launched in 2013 with the support of King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD), aims to recycle bread leftovers from hotels, restaurants and schools, dry it to turn it into fodder.

The money from the dry bread, which is sold to traders, is used to provide scholarships for underprivileged students and refugees in Jordan.

The initiative, which now runs by the name “Recycling for education”, includes three branches: bread for education, paper for education and plastic for education, and has expanded its work to Kuwait, Palestine and Morocco.

The initiative, which received the King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Order for Distinction of The Third Degree from His Majesty King Abdullah in 2016, has won awards in several countries.
