AMMAN — A man was charged on Tuesday with the premeditated murder of his wife in Karak following a domestic dispute on Sunday, a senior judicial source said.
The suspect was also charged with the attempted premeditated murder of his 15-year-old daughter by Karak Criminal Court Prosecutor Minwer Sarayrah.
The 51-year-old woman and her daughter were allegedly stabbed by the suspect while at their home in Karak, 140km south of Amman, on Sunday morning.
The suspect reportedly attacked a second daughter with the knife but she suffered minor injuries.
The suspect reportedly fled the house and was later arrested by a police patrol that was in the area.
The judicial source told The Jordan Times that the “the incident occurred over domestic disputes and the suspect was intoxicated”.
“We learnt from our initial investigations that there were complaints lodged at the Family Protection Department regarding abuses at home and we believe it was the motive behind the stabbings,” the judicial source, who preferred anonymity, added.
Prosecutor Sarayrah kept the suspect in detention at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigations.
