AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat on Monday discussed bilateral agricultural relations with German Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. During the meeting held at the Agriculture Ministry, Hneifat explained in detail the agricultural situation in Jordan and the Kingdom’s problems exporting in light of political conditions in the region.

He said the biggest problem is the suspension of exports to Iraq, noting that 80 per cent of agricultural exports used to go to Iraq and that there is now a 400 per cent surplus of agricultural production in the local market. For his part, Schmidt voiced his country’s appreciation for Jordan’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees and said Germany seeks solutions to the crises in the region.
