Police cracking down on suspected protection rackets

AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel in the capital during the past two days have implemented a security operation to crack down on protection rackets targeting shops, tourist restaurants and nightclubs, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported Wednesday.
The suspects were wanted for cases involving threatening people, theft, carrying firearms, possessing drugs, fraud and attempted murder, according to Petra.
The apprehended suspects were taken in for questioning. The Public Security Department called on citizens and shop and restaurant owners not to succumb to protection rackets but immediately report them.
