Geographical centre celebrates World Space Week

AMMAN — The Royal Jordanian Geographical Centre is celebrating World Space Week with seminars, space art and exhibitions, the centre announced on Tuesday. World Space Week commemorates the anniversary of the birth of the space age and the launch of the first satellite, the Sputnik 1, on October 4, 1957, the centre said in a statement.
In collaboration with the Regional Office for the Development of Astronomy in the Arab Countries, the centre aims to introduce space science and technologies and their role in the improvement of human livelihoods, the statement said.
The centre’s director, Brig. Gen. Awni Al Khasawneh, said planned events include several lectures on remote sensing and space science, the screening of a documentary on the history of space exploration and an exhibition, “Heaven’s Gate”.
