‘Customs officers seize smuggled cigarettes in Aqaba’

AMMAN — Aqaba Customs Department personnel have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 984 cigarette cartons of various brands into the country, the Jordan Customs Department (JCD) said on Sunday.
The container was declared as medical equipment, and the incident will incur around JD1.3 million in penalties and customs fees, the JCD said in a statement. An official customs declaration report was filed ahead of legal procedures to be taken against the offenders.
