Issue 42 of Great Arab Revolt’s paper reprinted

AMMAN — A reprint of the 42nd issue of Al Qibla newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt, is distributed with Monday’s Jordan Times issue. 

The newspaper, which was printed in Mecca a century ago, dedicated its editorial to mark the birthday of Prophet Mohammad in the same city. 

The editorial was written by the biweekly’s chief editor and famous man of letters, Fuad Al Khatib, who remembered the struggle of the Prophet to spread justice and build a strong Arab-Islamic state in Arabia, starting his message from Islam’s holiest city.

The second page is split between coverage of Prophet birthday celebrations in Hijaz and a story about the  people of Mecca’s meeting with King Hussein. They asked his permission to join the forces of the revolt. The king responded with a speech that was published in full. 

Pages three and four included reports on Turkey and military developments of the revolt and WWI.

The distribution of the paper (1916-1924) by The Jordan Times and other local dailies is part of celebrations of the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt.
