8,000 teachers learn new classroom skills over summer — USAID

AMMAN — Some 8,000 primary school teachers from across Jordan learned new methods to teach reading and maths over the summer, USAID said on Sunday. The Ministry of Education developed improved teaching and learning materials and then trained teachers and administrators, USAID said in a statement.

The training was part of the Early Grade Reading and Mathematics Initiative (RAMP), a $48 million project funded by USAID and the UK’s Department for International Development.

Khawla Abu Al Haija, the managing director of RAMP’s education training centre, stressed the ministry’s commitment to improving student achievement by the end of the RAMP initiative in 2019.

USAID official Allyson Wainer said reading and maths were the foundations for future learning and success, according to the statement. “This training will help teachers support their students and measurably increase their skills,” said Wainer.
