Hot spell to continue until Sunday

AMMAN — Hot but stable weather is forecast for the second half of the fasting month of Ramadan, according to meteorologist Omar Dajani.  

The first two weeks of Ramadan were characterised by fluctuating weather, said Dajani, the chief weather forecaster for Arabiaweather.com.

But with the start of summer, hot and dry weather can be expected, he added.

Tuesday marked the summer solstice, when the sun’s vertical rays fall on the Tropic of Cancer, Dajani told The Jordan Times, noting that Tuesday was the longest day of the year and the shortest night.

“Summer in Jordan continues until September. It is characterised by hot dry weather and it is also the time of the year when several seasonal Indian depressions that bring very hot winds affect the country as they blow over the Gulf region,” Dajani said.

He noted that the country is currently under the impact of a weak expansion of a seasonal Indian depression, noting that hot weather and above average temperatures will continue prevailing until the end of this week.

Temperatures will reach a high of 37ºC in Amman later this week, Dajani said, noting that a drop in temperatures is expected next week.

“Starting Sunday and Monday, temperatures will start to drop back to their annual average of 31ºC for this time of the year,” Dajani noted.
