AMMAN — A hot air mass accompanied by a seasonal Indian depression is expected to start affecting the Kingdom during Eid Al Fitr holiday, pushing temperatures 4 to 6ºC above their annual average.

Acting Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) Hussein Momani explained that weather map analysis showed that a hot spell will prevail during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, noting that temperatures are expected to soar above 30°C, bringing hot weather conditions across the country, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Eid holidays will witness hot and dry conditions around the Kingdom, with a peak of the heat wave expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mercury levels in Amman during the Eid holidays are expected to reach a high of between 35 and 37ºC, he said.

Daytime temperatures in the desert and Eastern Badia will range between 37ºC and 40ºC, while the forecast for hilly areas ranges between 31ºC and 33ºC.

Meanwhile, mercury levels in the Jordan Valley and the Gulf of Aqaba will reach a high of 39ºC to 40ºC, the JMD official added.

The public is advised to avoid direct sun exposure, particularly around noon, drink a lot of water and liquids to avoid dehydration, he said.

Momani also urged farmers to water their crops early in the morning before temperatures begin to rise, so as to reduce evaporation.
