Heatwave expected to subside Tuesday

AMMAN — A heatwave that affected the Kingdom over the past three days is expected to gradually ease off as of Tuesday, when the weather will change into moderate starting from the afternoon, a meteorologist said Monday.

On Monday, temperatures in Amman reached around 38ºC, the peak of the heatwave,
Arabiaweather.com Chief Weather Forecaster Omar Dajani told The Jordan Times, adding that a remarkable drop is forecast over the coming days.

Mercury levels in Amman on Tuesday will range between a high of 32ºC during the day and a low of 17ºC at night, the meteorologist said. 

Temperatures in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Aqaba and desert areas will be around 40ºC.

“As of Wednesday, the country will be affected by a fair air mass that would last for a couple of days and contribute to a further drop in temperatures and a relatively cold weather at night,” Dajani said.

Temperatures during the day in the capital will be 28ºC, dropping to 17ºC at night, with the appearance of low-altitude clouds, he said, noting it will be relatively hot in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Aqaba and desert areas.

On Thursday, mercury levels in the capital will mark a high of 25ºC during the day, dropping to a low of 12ºC at night.

“Temperatures in the capital on Friday will range between a high of 27ºC during the day and a low of 12ºC,” Dajani said, describing the weather as suitable for picnicking during the weekend.
