AMMAN — Temperatures this week are forecast to soar eight degrees above the annual average for this time of year as a warm air mass and an upper trough affect the country, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Sunday.
The weather will be warm with plenty of sunshine, JMD meteorologist Laila Shaheen said, noting that a Red Sea depression accompanied by a warm air mass started affecting the Kingdom on Saturday.
“The impact of the Red Sea depression and warm air mass will continue on Monday. An upper trough will follow, causing another rise in temperatures,” Shaheen told The Jordan Times.
On Monday, the weather will be warm in most parts of the country and relatively hot in Aqaba and the Jordan Valley, according to the department.
Temperatures in Amman will range between a high of 28ºC during the day and a low of 17ºC at night.
A slight rise in mercury levels is forecast for Tuesday when the country is affected by an upper trough that will push temperatures six degrees above their annual average of 24ºC, Shaheen said.
Warm weather is forecast in mountainous areas and it will be relatively hot in the rest of the country, with southwesterly moderate winds.
Temperatures in the capital will reach 30ºC during the day and drop to 20ºC at night.
Another rise in mercury levels is expected on Wednesday, when the country will remain under the impact of the upper trough, Shaheen added.
It will be relatively hot in most parts of the country, and hot in Aqaba and the Jordan Valley, while temperatures will rise eight degrees above their annual average, she said.
Temperatures in the capital will range between a maximum of 32ºC and a minimum of 20ºC, and winds will be southwesterly moderate.
A drop in temperatures is forecast for Thursday, but they will remain above the annual average, according to Shaheen.
The weather will be moderate on Thursday with temperatures in Amman reaching a high of 28ºC during the day and dropping to a low of 15ºC at night, she said.
