AMMAN — Border Guards at dawn on Friday destroyed a pickup vehicle after it was spotted speeding towards the Jordanian border from the Syrian side, an official source from the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said.

Border Guards dealt with the vehicle in accordance with the rules of engagement, resulting in destroying the vehicle, the source was quoted as saying by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Border Guards found bags of narcotics in addition to an automatic weapon and ammunition, the source said.

The army has been on maximum alert since the start of the Syrian civil war five years ago to prevent terrorists from threatening the country’s security, warning in frequent statements that it would respond on the spot to such infiltration attempts.
