AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Monday said there are no licensed companies providing valet parking services in the capital.
Mohammad Faouri, director of joint management at GAM, called on motorists not to leave their cars with valet parking attendants employed by restaurants or cafés.
“Many restaurants employ people to provide their customers with valet parking services, but none have obtained an official licence to that end from GAM,” he told The Jordan Times over the phone.
Faouri said the municipality has announced a set of regulations for commercial establishments seeking to obtain a licence for a valet parking service.
“Any establishment that wants to offer this service has to obtain insurance, own or rent a piece of land as a parking lot, and the employees have to wear a uniform with a badge,” he explained.
The GAM official said motorists who deal with unlicensed valet parking services might have their cars damaged or stolen.
“Some valet attendants park their customers’ cars in illegal places which results in traffic tickets,” he noted.
Also on Monday, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) warned car owners against unlicensed valet parking attendants, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The department urged motorists to double-check the official documents of attendants before they hand over their car keys.
Faouri said GAM teams, in cooperation with Public Security Department personnel, organise field visits to check on these unlicensed valet parking services, and have referred several people to the administrative governor over the issue.
